KOTA BARU: Kurnia Insurans (M) Bhd plans to move aggressively into the healthcare
and personalised insurance coverage from this year.
While 90% of its premium revenue was attributed to motor insurance, the company
planned to ensure that healthcare and personalised insurance grew to 30% of
its gross income in the long term, said chief executive officer Kong Shu Yin.
To this end, it has formed a property and casualty division.
Kurnia is among the top providers for motor insurance in the country and ranks
number one in Kelantan.
Kong said this after opening the new Kelantan branch building here on Thursday.
Present were deputy general manager K.K. Lee and Kelantan branch senior manager
Lee Yook Un.
Kong said many policyholders now wanted better and quality healthcare. They
also noted an increase in healthcare costs, so it was worthwhile investing
in such an insurance scheme.
Asked if Kurnia was placing less priority on motor insurance, Kong said its
core business remained the same but the company needed to expand into other
markets such as healthcare.
For the financial year ended June 30, Kurnia registered RM1.19bil in premium
sales, of which RM93mil was from healthcare coverage.
