Road Mission 2000- Driving the Nation Towards Road Courtesy

The Road Mission 2000 was launched by then Transport Minister, Datuk Seri Ling Liong Sik on 22nd July, 1997. Lasting for seven months, Kurnia Insurans fully sponsored the campaign and was sanctioned by the Ministry of Transport and supported by the Polis Di Raja Malaysia (PDRM), the Road Safety Council (MKJR), the Ministry of Education, PIAM, JPJ and AAM. Other supporters include taxi, bus and lorry associations and the Motorcycle Association of the Federal Territory and Selangor.

The campaign which was a follow-up to the successful Road Safety Campaign during the 1997 Kongsi Raya period, hoped to address the distressing statistics on road accidents and fatalities on Malaysian roads as well as promote new police traffic hand signals. Speaking on this matter, Datuk Seri Ling Liong Sik remarked, "In the twinkling of an eye, the benign and well-mannered Malaysian can change into an enraged, wild and self-centered driver on the road". CEO Adrian Loh added, "The Road Mission 2000 strategy is to educate and reward, and where necessary, deter and even impose punitive action against recalcitrant road offenders".

Kurnia offices around the country also distributed campaign stickers which were part of a RM100,000 contest to drive the campaign to the masses.
